PigiWeb is the first Pig Latin browser for the iPhone and quite possibly the first one ever for any platform. Some may say there is a reason it’s the first, as such a browser is inherently silly. However, those folks have never enjoyed the pleasure of reading the New York Times in Pig Latin; two wars and a recession never sounded so amusing. PigiWeb is a great way to wile away that time on the subway, in the doctors office, or whenever you want to amuse yourself or your friends with a fun linguistic game.
Features:
-- Browse your favorite news and blog websites translated into Pig Latin, including many popular sites like the New York Times, CNet, Politco, CNN, BBC, Wired, TMZ, FailBlog, and many more.
-- Keep track of your favorite websites in Pig Latin using the fully featured Bookmarks window.
-- Browsing is kept familiar with a back button and a URL entry field.
Unfeatures:
-- PigiWeb cannot translate text that is in images. For most sites this is not an issue, but some sites such as Apple.com have a lot of text in images that will not be translated.
-- Sites requiring that you use a form to enter the site are not translated into Pig Latin and may not work, as the form entry may be interfered with by the Pig-Latinizing process. This includes search engines and sites that require you to log in, such as your email. Then again, you probably shouldn’t be writing your emails in Pig Latin anyways.
-- Some sites that make heavy use of JavaScript or other non-HTML language may not work properly, as the Pig-Latinizing process may interfere here as well.
-- PigiWeb can take some time to load, especially on text-heavy sites; theres just one poor little piggy scribbling away.
PigiWebs Pig Latin Rules:
-- If a word starts with a consonant, move that consonant to the end of the word and then add ay to the end.
Example: word --> ordway
-- If a word starts with a vowel, add ay to the end of the word.
Example: apple -> appleay
-- If a word begins with qu, move qu to the end of the word and then add ay to the end.
Example: quiet -> ietquay
-- If a word ends in a before the ay is added to the end, then just add y.
Example: Alaska -> Alaskay
-- Perform this transformation on words of any size, including one letter words.
Example: a -> ay
Tips:
-- Refresh a page by selecting the URL text field and then just pushing Go without making any changes.
-- In the Bookmarks window hit the edit button and a + button will appear in the upper left; use this button to bookmark the site the browser is currently at.
-- If you are desperate to experience the joy of Facebook Pig-Latinized, you can login to the main page and then refresh the page to see your friends’ status updates in pig latin. The rest of the site will not be available.
